Ethics for Legal Assistants

Antonette Payne

Ivy Tech Program Chair of Paralegal Studies and Asst. Professor

Antonette Payne will speak on 3 common ethical mistakes and how to avoid them. Most people do not set out to violate the ethical rules but sometimes violations occur because we are unaware or inadvertently violate the rule while trying to help someone. We will discuss confidentiality, unauthorized practice of law, and advertising/solicitation of clients.

Since August 2020, Antonette has been the Program Chair for Legal Studies at Ivy Tech Community College, Fort Wayne/Warsaw campuses. Antonette is a licensed attorney with over 17 years of experience in New York and Indiana. Antonette holds a BA in Sociology with a minor in Spanish, an MA, an Ed.D. in Adult Community and Higher Education from Ball State University, and a JD from New York Law School. Besides teaching, Antonette practices law and serves on several community boards, including as a trustee for Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of Trustees.
